Not himself. I did know that times were hard. By that I mean I know that things had become tricky financially. He didn’t want to stay in the afternoon and talk, as he had usually done. We had a very quick sandwich. He asked if I liked the sculpture. I didn’t. He said that was fine, and just wrapped it back up in newspaper and made for the door. Then he turned and said he was thinking of going away. He said he hadn’t spoken to you about it because he imagined you wouldn’t care one way or the other. He seemed, I don’t know.
